Details
This 1993 Ford Explorer XLT is a re-creation of the tour vehicle as seen in the 1993 film "Jurassic Park." Set on an island theme park established by a billionaire industrialist and featuring cloned dinosaurs, 1993's "Jurassic Park" was yet another in a long line of blockbuster movies directed by Steven Spielberg, who purchased the film rights to author Michael Chrichton's 1990 novel before it was even published. The all-star cast included Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Richard Attenborough. Filming took place in California and Hawaii from August to November 1992, and post-production lasted until May 1993, supervised by Spielberg in Poland as he was filming "Schindler's List." In addition to enjoying immense popularity and going on to earn over $1 billion against a $63 million budget, "Jurassic Park" advanced the cinematic arts by a quantum leap with the dinosaurs created with new computer-generated imagery by Industrial Light & Magic, plus life-sized animatronic dinosaurs built by Stan Winston's team. Sound quality included Spielberg's investment in startup DTS, a pioneering company specializing in digital surround-sound formats. In addition to the massive film and production budget, "Jurassic Park" was promoted by an extensive $65 million marketing campaign, including licensing deals with over 100 companies. As the highest-grossing film of all time, finally surpassed by "Titanic" in 1997, "Jurassic Park" garnered over 20 awards, including three Academy Awards for technical achievements in visual effects and sound design. In 2018, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." In addition to the cast and, of course, the computer-generated and animatronic dinosaurs, the Ford Explorer-based Jurassic Park tour vehicles with their unforgettable graphics remain quite popular. Acquired by Dr. Berkowitz in February 2019 at 102,070 recorded miles, this first-generation 1993 Ford Explorer was purchased from Tennessee with a white paint finish underneath an exterior wrap in highly authentic Jurassic Park movie graphics, complemented by the very presentable and highly original interior. In addition to the factory 4.0-liter V6 engine equipped with sequential multi-point fuel injection, power is delivered by a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and all-wheel drive. Other features of this captivating movie tribute include power steering, 4-wheel disc brakes, ABS, front and rear anti-roll bars, and radial tires on factory 15-inch wheels painted yellow to match the movie vehicles. Other features include a front brush guard, cosmetic-only prop fog lights (not wired), and yellow-painted front and rear bumpers. The original blue cloth interior includes an AM/FM cassette radio, an original-style steering wheel, heat and air conditioning, power locks and power windows (with only the front operational).
