Details

This custom 1973 BMW 2002 is powered by a 2.3-liter S14 inline-4 installed in 2011, and it features a Dinan ECU chip, Mallory ignition-system components, a switched electric cooling fan and a 2002 Turbo-specification resonator and muffler. Work in November 2020 included replacing the timing chain tensioner, valve cover gasket, cylinder head gasket, camshaft seal, ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor, fuel pump and spark plugs. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an E30 M3-sourced Getrag 265 5-speed manual transmission as well as a limited-slip differential with 3.45 gearing. A custom-fabricated shift linkage was installed, and the shifter shaft seal was replaced in December 2023, while the output shaft seal was replaced in 2020. Front and rear subframes sourced from a Tii model have been installed, and the oil pan has been modified. Repainted Colorado, the car has been further modified with Tii-specification subframes, Bilstein shocks, H&R springs, Koni sway bars and Scheel seats upholstered in black vinyl and cloth. Since 2019 work has included overhauling the ignition system, installing a custom-fabricated shift linkage and replacing the timing chain tensioner, cylinder head gasket, brake shoes and tires. The car received a replacement right-rear quarter panel before being repainted Colorado (002) during time with a previous owner. Italian-market front turn signal assemblies have been installed, and further exterior details include chrome bumpers with overriders and rubber impact strips as well as dual side mirrors, pop-out rear windows, round taillights and a single off-center polished exhaust outlet. The brake light switch was replaced, and repairs were made to the reverse lights and driver's-side headlight under current ownership. Paint protection film was applied to the hood, front bumper, front fenders and portions of the rocker panels and doors in July 2021. Silver-finished 15-inch steel wheels are fitted with 195/50 Vredestein Quatrac tires that were mounted in 2021. A Wallothnesch strut tower brace spans the engine bay, and further chassis modifications include Bilstein shocks, H&R springs, Koni sway bars and urethane bushings. Front disc brakes sourced from a Tii model have been installed up front, and the E21-specification rear drum brakes received replacement shoes. Scheel Rally 400 bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl with textured cloth inserts have been installed on sliding bases up front, and they are joined by a color-coordinated rear bench, carpeting and door panel inserts. The cabin is further appointed with a heater, crank-operated windows and a Clarion stereo, which the selling dealer notes functions intermittently. The upper dashboard is cracked, and a panel has become detached from the lower dashboard to the left of the steering column. The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. Supplementary VDO gauges for voltage, coolant temperature and oil pressure reside ahead of the shifter. The five-digit odometer shows 34,000 miles, approximately 400 of which were added under current ownership. The previous owner noted the mileage to be inaccurate, therefore true mileage is unknown. The horn and turn signal switch were replaced in March 2023.
