This 1971 Chevrolet El Camino SS 454 was purchased new at Star Chevrolet in Bisbee, AZ, as documented by a copy of its original Build Sheet. A highly optioned car when new, it is powered by an LS5 454ci engine. It is equipped with factory air conditioning, power steering, power disc brakes and the SS Equipment Group. It is a multiple First Place show-winner, with awards included. Upgrades for performance and reliability were added. The engine was rebuilt bored .030 over, with 10.1 compression pistons, a Lunati full roller hydraulic cam and rockers, ARP hardware, MSD ignition, custom-tuned headers with Flowmaster mufflers and Holley Sniper fuel injection. The engine is backed by a built-up TH400 automatic transmission with factory horseshoe shifter in the center console. The 12-bolt posi-traction rear differential now has a 3.55 gear. The air conditioning was upgraded to more modern R134A. The disc brakes were upgraded to SSBC aluminum calipers anodized red with a hydro-boost power brake booster. The suspension has been upgraded with Global West tubular control Arms and QA1 adjustable coilovers, as well as heavy-duty sway bars front and back. It rolls on 15-inch forged aluminum Cragar SS rims with BFGoodrich tires. The bed has been custom-lined with Signature Series protective coating.
