Details

This 1968 Pontiac Firebird custom convertible is powered by a big-block V8 engine featuring Merlin II heads, a balanced steel crank, forged pistons and rods, and a Comp 0.650 lift solid roller cam. The engine is equipped with Crower roller lifters and pushrods, Lunati roller rockers, a Weiand water pump and a Griffin aluminum radiator. It is fitted a polished 6-71 blower driven by Big Al's Toy Box rib belt system, feeding two 600 cfm Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetors via Lokar throttle linkage and a Hi-Flow fuel pump. Power is transmitted through a Centerforce dual-friction clutch with an 11-inch steel flywheel housed in a Lakewood bellhousing to a Doug Nash Competition 5-speed manual transmission with a Hurst short-throw shifter. The exhaust flows through Hooker headers, a custom 2.5-inch X-pipe, Quick Time electric cutouts and 4-inch tunable Hooker mufflers. The front suspension features a Wayne Due subframe, Corvette A-arms, Afco coilover shocks and C4 disc brakes, combined with a Mustang power rack and Gen II pump. At the rear, the car is equipped with an Art Morrison triangulated 4-link system, a Lincoln 9.375-inch posi-traction rear end, Currie axles, adjustable coilover shocks and Explorer disc brakes with a drum parking brake. The bodywork includes tubs, a modified floor and 1967 Camaro quarter-panels. Additional modifications include a 1967 Cougar fuel tank, 1967 doors with wing windows and fiberglass Camaro front fenders, inner fenders, front valance and hood. This car features square headlights and a power-operated custom brown vinyl top with powder-coated bows. Electric Life window lifts and keyless door and trunk entry add modern convenience. The interior is upholstered in custom leather crafted from deer, elk and buffalo hides, with Fiero seats and custom door panels. A Covan dash houses Stewart-Warner 270 sweep gauges, while an Ididit tilt steering column, braided dash and visors complete the cabin. Dynamat soundproofing complements a Kenwood stereo system with a 10-disc CD changer, remote 300-watt amplifier, Sony 12-inch rear speakers, 6x9-inch speakers in the rear armrests, 5-inch speakers in the doors and headrest-mounted speakers. The car's paint has minor imperfections but was recently polished.
