Powered by a full cast-iron 289ci engine with the C6FE heads, one 4-barrel carburetor and a dual-point ignition system, paired with a BorgWarner aluminum 4-speed transmission. Title in transit.

Details

A number of the Original Venice Crew (OVC) members took on the project of building an FIA-certified GT350 Competition Mustang, now known as a "R Model." This 1965 Ford Mustang FIA GT350 Competition Continuation Model is now the only known OVC Mustang and FIA-certified GT350 built by the guys who built the first FIA-certified GT350. In building this FIA model, the OVC crew had to meet the exacting standards of the FIA requirements. To meet those requirements, this GT350 has a full cast-iron 289ci engine with the C6FE heads, one 4-barrel carburetor and a dual-point ignition system. The engine puts out 450hp at 7,000 rpm. It features the solid rear axle and a BorgWarner aluminum 4-speed transmission. The suspension has a Shelby drop and Koni shocks all around. The front suspension is boxed for strength and reliability. Stopping power is provided by Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes in the front and wide drum brakes in the rear. The roll bar meets the FIA specs and the driver's seat is aluminum with a leather cover and four-point seat belts. The fuel tank has an FIA-approved bladder with foam for safety. The OVC Mustang has hand-flared fenders by one of the original crew members who did it in 1965. It also features a handmade carburetor plenum and fuel splash guard, and acetylene welded by one of the original Shelby crew members. In meeting the requirements, this OVC FIA model became an exact continuation model of the 1965 championship-winning GT350 known as No. 002 - the shorthand name for the GT350 Ken Miles drove to a win at the Green Valley, TX, Raceway on February 14, 1965. A nickname developed around a picture of that feat, and No. 002 became known as the "Flying Mustang." All the handwork, fabrication and testing of the Flying Mustang was done by Ted Sutton, Peter Bryant and Jim Marietta, and the aero changes by Peter Brock. Chuck Cantwell and Dick Kins were the project engineers. The test drivers were Bob Bondurant and Ken Miles. Most of the testing was done at Willow Springs Raceway and Riverside. Repeating the build of No. 002, the OVC team was comprised of Ted Sutton and Jim Marietta, in consultation with Peter Brock and Dick Lins. All the OVC testing took place at Willow Springs Raceway, identical to the testing of No. 002 some 60 years earlier. The OVC GT350 FIA Mustang is a one-of-a-kind continuation piece. For reference purposes, No. 002 sold for approximately $4 million in July 2020. In detail, this fully titled Mustang was completely disassembled and then built it into a continuation of the GT350 FIA Competition Model. The OVC Mustang is the only survivor built by the original team members who built the first FIA homologated GT350 Mustang. There are companies building Cobras and Daytona coupes, but none are done by the guys from the Original Venice shop. The year 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of the GT350s - and also the 60th anniversary of Team Shelby winning the FIA World Manufacturer Championship. OVC Mustangs is honored to offer for sale the only FIA GT350 Mustang built and prepared by the guys who built the first GT350 in Venice, CA. As an option, OVC will offer a Street Conversion Package. This car may be registered as a historic vehicle in many states, including California. **TITLE IN TRANSIT**
