1979 VOLKSWAGEN SUPER BEETLE CONVERTIBLE

The Epilogue edition was among the rarest models ever produced by Volkswagen. The vehicle was painted all black with matching top and interior to commemorate the very first convertible prototype produced by Volkswagen in 1938. In May and June of 1979, each Volkswagen dealer received only one Epilogue model. This car was restored using only factory new-old stock German parts. The fuel injection was totally overhauled to original Volkswagen factory specifications. All internal engine components

were either replaced with factory original or reconditioned. The body of the vehicle was chemically stripped to bare metal, premiered, and block sanded five times. Then four coats of original factory Volkswagen German Glausurit L041 single-stage enamel black were sprayed onto the vehicle. The transmission was inspected, serviced and cleaned. New CV boots were installed as was a new clutch. The gas tank was flushed, repainted and re-installed. Additionally, the throw-out bearing and the flywheel were resurfaced. A new interior was installed including seats, door panels, hardware and carpet. Other interior features include the original German Blaupunkt AM/FM/8-track tape player with re-coned original speaker and all instrument gauges were restored. A new convertible top, padding and headliner were installed. Every rubber seal on the vehicle was replaced with new German rubber including the doors, windows and convertible top. New German glass was also installed throughout the car including the windshield. It features the original German bumpers and turn indicators. The door handles were rechromed and it has new running boards, trim and splash guards. Original date-stamped 4 ½ x15' sport-style rims were sandblasted, reconditioned and fitted with new tires. 4-speed manual transmission. This extremely rare 1979 Volkswagen Epilogue Special Edition is a very fine example.
