Conceived by Ferdinand Piech and hand assembled in the eco-friendly transparent factory in Dresden, Germany, Volkswagen engineers were charged to create a car that would surpass the German prestige market leaders: Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The Phaeton was engineered to exacting standards and is capable of being driven at 186 mph with an exterior temperature of 122 degrees, while maintaining the interior temperature at 72 degrees and possess torsional rigidity of 37,000 N m/degree. The Phaeton has hidden climate-control vents placed behind luxurious wood trim; the rear headrest automatically whirs upwards when a rear passenger entered the vehicle. The seatbelt height can be adjusted automatically, the climate controls have buttons with lights that show how much air is coming out and 17-way adjustable seats with vents, heat and massage, even in the rear. Equipped with a 4.2-liter 335hp V8 engine and an automatic transmission, it is capable of 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds.
