Description

Summary

One of 25 Active Suspension prototype Corvettes used to develop new suspension technology. Powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine backed by a 6-speed manual transmission. Not street legal. Sold on Bill of Sale.

Details

In 1990, General Motors wanted to pursue the fastest and most sophisticated production sports car in the world with the ZR1. To that end, GM sought the expertise of the Lotus F1 program to infuse their Active Suspension technology into the Corvette platform. GM allocated $27 million for the research and development of an intelligent digital/hydraulic active suspension system that would better adapt to road conditions, lateral handling and corner balancing. This state-of-the-art technology was 10 years ahead of becoming viable in mainstream sports cars. Twenty-five Active Suspension Corvette prototypes were built. Of those, it is estimated that only two to four are still in existence. This is one of those surviving cars. This Corvette participated in numerous tests around the world, including Germany and at Daytona where it averaged 175 mph. It is identified with an experimental chassis number and all the fully functional prototype equipment, including the 3000-psi active suspension self-leveling hydraulic system, Delco computer and other experimental components. Power comes from the 5.7-liter V8 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. It has 12,361 miles mostly put on by the GM engineering and test teams, includes a copy of the GM Build Sheet, was showcased in the GM Heritage Center and National Corvette Museum, and was featured in several automotive publications, including MotorTrend. Don't miss this incredible opportunity to own a piece of GM and Corvette automotive history. **NOT STREET LEGAL** **SOLD ON BILL OF SALE**
