Details
This 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is one of nine 351ci 4-speeds produced with the Twister Special Package. It is the only one of the nine known to exist. It is powered by a 351ci Cleveland 4V engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Of 96 Twister Specials produced, 48 were equipped with the 351ci 4-barrel engine and 48 were equipped with the 428 SCJ engine. Of the 48 351ci Twisters built, only nine received the 4-speed manual transmission. Finished in Grabber Orange over black, this example is originally equipped with black hood stripe, 4-speed close-ratio manual transmission, optional axle ratio, Traction-Lok differential, F70x14 belted tires, Shaker hood scoop, power front disc brakes, AM radio, tinted glass, trim rings and hubcaps. Upgrades include front and rear spoilers, rear window louvers, fold-down rear seat, power steering, and Stereo-Sonic tape with AM/FM radio. This example was shipped new to C&F Motors in Oswego, KS, and was purchased by the second owner out of Parsons, KS, on October 17, 1980. Afterwards, it was brought to Milwaukee, WI, and much of the Twister Special striping and decals had been removed by the original owner. The car also saw a minor restoration by Supreme Auto Body in Oconomowoc, WI, as it was in original condition at that time. This example has spent the last 42 years with the same owner and was showcased in hundreds of car shows. It's been featured in magazines, such as Mustang Monthly, as the only known 351ci 4-speed known to exist. Terry Fritts, known as 'Mr. Twister' and founder of the Twister Special Registry, used this car over the years to document the Twister Special's originality. Documentation includes original handwritten letters between Terry Fritts and the second owner of 42 years, exchanging photos and documentation to help document original Twister Specials. In 2011-12, the car underwent a more extensive restoration. Afterwards, it was kept at the owner's home in the family room as a showcase through early 2023. This car was started religiously and taken around the block a couple of times a year. Documentation also includes a Window Sticker and Elite Marti Report, along with the original Build Sheet, owner's manual, restoration photos, magazines with car features, 'Mr. Twister' typed letters and receipts going back to 1980. It also includes a Kansas license plate from the purchase in 1980, and original photos from the Kansas City International Raceway on November 7, 1969, for Total Performance Day for dealer distribution.
