Details
This is one of 697 Trans Ams and one of only nine produced with air conditioning and 3-speed automatic transmission. The car is powered by the correct Ram Air III engine (Code YW). The meticulous frame-off restoration of this vehicle was performed by Pontiac historian Jerry Burge of the Atlanta Rod Shop. For the restoration, this car was completely disassembled and stripped to bare metal. The subframe was removed and the entire drivetrain was rebuilt. The body of this vehicle still wears all the
original sheet metal and the body fit is laser-straight. Once the body was prepared, it was given a fresh coat of the correct Polar White, with careful care given to make sure that the twin Blue stripes were properly placed. It was detailed with all the correct part numbers and date-coded items to duplicate as closely as possible this rare and unusual vehicle as it left Pontiac's Norwood plant. The Ram Air III engine and all associated parts were completely rebuilt. Everything was reassembled and the entire engine assembly was given a coat of the correct Pontiac silver-blue engine paint. All the exterior emblems were replaced with either new or NOS pieces. The restoration on this Firebird is 100% 'factory correct,' right down to the T-3 headlamps and original-style Goodyear white-lettered tires. In 2012, this vehicle scored 384 out of 400 points at the Pontiac Oakland Club National Convention and received the Concours Gold award.
