Description
This custom 1968 Ford Mustang fastback pays tribute to the car featured in the hit movie 'Bullitt' starring Steve McQueen. This fastback has been professionally restored and infused with modern technology by the experts at M&R Restorations. The goal was to keep it true to the original 'Bullitt' car look but with a much higher-performing driving experience. The paint and bodywork are done to show-car standards with the exterior expertly finished in a customized version of the original Highland Green paint from 1968. Keeping an FE motor as in the version Steve McQueen drove in the movie was important, so the heart of this custom 'Bullitt' is a blueprinted and balanced fuel-injected FE 428ci aluminum-headed V8 engine. That power is sent to a TREMEC 5-speed manual transmission and to the ground through a Ford 9-inch rear axle with a 3.73 posi-traction gear. The engine is fitted with Holley electronic fuel injection, a Hyperspark ignition system and Concept One serpentine system. Spent gases flow through FPA ceramic-coated full-length headers that feed a MagnaFlow dual-exhaust system. With the push of a button, the exhaust will open up through a set of electric cutouts. The cabin features a deluxe interior with the roomy rear fold-down seat, a Vintage Air system and heat, Dakota Digital gauges, an Ididit tilt steering column for extra adjustability and a high-powered MTX audio system with amp and subwoofers controlled by a RetroSound radio that looks period-correct but is Bluetooth-enabled and is Sirius satellite-ready. Road manners and handling are significantly improved with an upgraded suspension all around. The front uses custom adjustable coilover struts by Strut Your Stuff and tubular control arms. The rear uses Eaton leaf springs with double-adjustable Viking shocks and a sway bar. The Shelby-style Traction-Masters control wheel hop by keeping both rear wheels firmly planted, and the frame has been reinforced with custom-made frame connectors to handle the additional power. Other equipment includes a Borgeson power steering unit and 4-wheel Wilwood power disc brakes. The wheels and the tires are dramatically upgraded from the vehicle Steve McQueen drove in 1968 but keep true to the movie car with Torq Thrust wheels wrapped in Nitto tires. A Painless wiring system was used throughout the car and a custom trunk kit has also been installed. This build was freshly completed in December 2023 and has test miles only.
Professional no-expense-spared build. Powered by a fuel-injected FE 428ci aluminum-headed V8 engine paired with a TREMEC 5-speed manual transmission and Ford 9-inch rear end. Upgraded suspension, power brakes and power steering.
