1968 DATSUN RL3 ROADSTER

Details

This special Datsun 2000 roadster was purchased by Dr. Long from a private party in Monterey, California. A several year frame-off restoration was performed by Randy Reed at Antique Auto Restoration of Seaside, California. Long's goal was to make this car the best example of a classic driveable Datsun 2000 roadster. A 1970 donor car was used to provide the hard to find items. The carburetors and manifold were swapped for twin Weber carburetors and manifold. Original equipment on this car

according to a VIN decoder included a 5-speed servo synchro-type transmission, U20 1982cc OHC engine, 3.70:1 final drive ratio, dual cicuit front disc and rear drum brakes. The restoration included tidying up the wiring harness from previous stereo and other modifications. All new chrome, leather interior, wool blend carpets and canvas top. All body panels were completely restored or replaced. The steering wheel is an aftermarket, leather-wrapped sport wheel. The gauges were serviced. The finest of parts were purchased. The VIN tag is mounted in the engine compartment on the passenger side below the windshield. The tag bears the same engine number as a stamp on the engine located near the thermostat housing. Silver, not the original color, was chosen because Long felt this color was the most elegant offering in 1968.
