1966 VOLKSWAGEN WESTFALIA S042 MICROBUS

This Volkswagen microbus is a rare factory Westfalia Camper (S0-42) that was special ordered and delivered new in Washington, DC. In addition to the pop top Westfalia camper package, it was equipped with a great array of equipment, including front bumper overriders, dual circuit brakes, hazard warning lights, twin reversing lights, laminated windscreen, sealed beam headlights, louvered side 'camping' windows and of course the famous Kombi side cargo doors. The Westfalia camping package was upgraded for 1965 with new features that included a new layout that allowed for new main and auxiliary door folding tables with main cabin table converting to a bed, re-located ice box, a new faucet, additional cabin storage and the introduction of the iconic fiberglass pop top. This Westie found its way to the Pacific Northwest by the early 1970s and it stayed there with enthusiast owners until it was purchased by noted VW collectors, Michael and Barbara Malamut and added to the collection of the Malamut Auto Museum in Thousand Oaks, CA. It remains in wonderfully preserved condition with almost totally original interior and one professional repaint in its factory original monochrome Pearl White paint scheme. The engine is upgraded to 1,600cc dual port spec, which makes for a dramatically improved driving experience and makes cruising in modern freeway traffic possible and enjoyable. A fabulous collection of period accessories, magazines, sporting and camping gear is included with this Westfalia.
