Details

The main components for this Australian (Roaring Forties-manufactured) 1965 Ford GT40 Mk I re-creation were imported in 2004. It was built over the next three years by a small-shop auto craftsman who has been building, restoring and modifying cars for 40 years. Titled and licensed in 2007, it was built to honor the famous #1075 GT40. The car is powered by a Ford Racing 302/345hp crate engine mated to a Getrag 5-speed manual transaxle. The engine has Ford aluminum GT40 heads, a high-performance XB3 roller cam, 9.0:1 compression ratio and a Bundle of Snakes exhaust. The car utilizes an Electromotive 8-stack fuel-injection system and has Gurney-Weslake valve covers. It features a steel space frame, aluminum sheet-covered panels, fiberglass spider, doors, front and rear bonnets, coilover shocks, front and rear sway bars, and vented disc brakes. It also has 17-inch BRM-style pin-drive wheels. In an effort to stay close to the original, the car is right-hand drive, and the shift lever is located between the driver and the door, just as it was in #1075. It has an aluminum rear spoiler, front brake air scoops and lights on the roundels. The front nostril releases are custom-made to exactly resemble those of the race car. The license plate retracts when the car is switched off. The livery is the blue/orange Gulf scheme from the Le Mans-winning #6 car of 1969. All the stripes, roundels, numbers and logos were painted on during the vehicle's construction beneath several layers of clear in order to seamlessly blend with the car's finish. The black interior features original-style leather seats with the iconic ring grommets, wool carpet and leather trim, as well as a Simpson fighter pilot lap belt and shoulder restraints. Other interior features include an 8,000-rpm tachometer, 200-mph speedometer and six auxiliary gauges. For comfort the car has air conditioning and heat, remote door locks and a sound amplifier with door speakers. It has extensive documentation relating to the build. **TITLED AS 1965 OTHR GT40**
