1961 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CUSTOM CONVERTIBLE

Details

This Corvette was born and is registered as a 1961; the body was updated with 1962 upgrades. Nothing was spared in the attention to detail of this project. As the restoration progressed, it was decided to replace the chassis and complete driveline, but retain the body. The tubular chassis was manufactured by SRIII Motorsports, with Corvette C5 front suspension, brakes and power rack & pinion steering, and Corvette C4 rear suspension, brakes and DANA 44 rear end, all powder coated to match. The

engine is a Bill Mitchell all aluminum SBC configuration, consisting of 427cid with Kinsler electronic fuel injection and a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed transmission. The engine was dyno'd at 532hp using a carburetor while waiting on the injection system. It should now develop in excess of 550hp since the additional tuning. For additional comfort, the Al Knoch interior was enhanced with bolsters on the seat backs and bottoms, and topped off with a black European cloth convertible top. Other features include Wonder Bar radio with RCA jacks for MP3 and other auxiliary hook-ups and Old Air Products air conditioning. To appreciate the features and operation of this very special Corvette, it comes with an updated owner's manual. The intent of this project was to retain the classic look of yesteryear while taking advantage of today's modern technology in creating a high-performance Corvette that is very drivable.
