Details

In 1957 a customer could walk into their local Chevrolet dealership and, with careful order form selections, initiate the build of one the most desirable performance cars of the era. For a mere $1,895 that car was the 150 Utility Business Sedan, also known as the Salesman. This specific-content car won the public over by the subtraction of many basic features while adding several core performance elements. The additions included the famed 283ci V8 small-block Chevrolet engine that was prepared with a special hi-lift camshaft then topped with dual 4-barrel carburetors for maximum performance. Horsepower was 270 - an eyepopping figure at the time. Mated to a 3-speed manual transmission and equipped with the batwing air cleaner, the 150 Salesman quickly became the favorite for racers on and off the strip. The 'sleeper' motif carried over into the Chevrolet's commonly equipped features. Fundamental vehicle elements were eliminated from the 150 to save weight and boost performance. These items deleted included the heater, radio, clock, cigarette lighter and ashtray. Even the rear seat was ditched - all in the fight to make the car faster. This 1957 Chevy 150 Salesman example has been restored to a high level of accuracy and precision. All correct General Motor parts numbers and proper date codes can be found throughout the meticulously restored drag race special. Included with the Chevrolet is an extensive restoration dossier with comprehensive production number verification and photos for all the vehicle components. Painted in code 802 Matador Red, every surface and material has been carefully refurbished and refinished to a high level of quality. From the Raser Collection.
