Details

One of the most photographed hot rods in America, this ’31 all-steel Ford Roadster called the “Blue Bayou” has appeared on the cover and in numerous feature articles of American and European car magazines. Professionally built by national award winner, Charles Spencer of Charley’s Garage, the “Blue Bayou” was selected as the Best Rod at the 2017 Detroit Autorama and recently won Best in Show at the Albuquerque 2018 Super Nationals. After winning Overall Outstanding Street Rod at the Sacramento

Autorama it went on to appear on the cover of Street Rodder’s and Classic Instrument’s calendars and the cover of Rodding USA magazine. Starting with a custom frame shaped to fit the 2-1/2” channeled roadster body, the front suspension has a 4” dropped axle, custom made hairpins, an external cowl steering arm, a custom spreader bar and front spring pockets. Equally stunning at the rear is a polished Winter’s quick-change, buggy spring and one-off custom rear shock mounts and radius arms. The firewall is hand-built while the modified grille shell is complemented by a custom fan shroud and a chopped windshield. A ’32 Ford dash houses the Classic Instrument’s gauges that are color matched to the car’s custom-mixed Axalta Blue finish. The stunning engine is a 1954 331ci Chrysler HEMI featuring aluminum heads by Hot Heads, forged pistons, six Stromberg EFI throttle bodies, an Isky cam, 5-speed manual transmission and a Hunt Electric Magneto. Hand-crafted engine parts include the engine mounts, headers and the thermostat housing crossover. No detail was left untouched nor expense spared in the build of this elegant ‘50s-correct hot rod with only 86 miles on the build. **TITLED AS A 1931 SPECO**
