Description

This 1966 Shelby 50th Anniversary GT40 MKII is No. 14 of 20 units commissioned by Shelby American in 2016 to mark the half-century of the 1966 Le Mans-winning cars, with two-thirds of the parts interchangeable with the original 1966 GT40 race cars. This limited edition is powered by a massive aluminum 496ci V8 engine connected to the Quaife 5-speed manual transaxle with the exhaust flowing through the coated 'bundle of snakes' headers and exiting from the polished center outlets. This example is reflective of the #1046 Ford GT40 driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and features Gloss Black paint with Silver stripes and painted white No. 2 roundels. It rides on knock-off 15-inch Halibrand-style wheels in Gold with additional appointments that include Wilwood brakes, a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and an aluminum radiator with electric cooling fans. Exterior details include covered headlights and fog lights, ducts on the front fenders, plexiglass side windows with pop-out vents, quick-jack front bumperettes, a ducktail spoiler and rear clamshell air intakes. The interior includes a removeable leather-wrapped steering wheel, black fixed-back racing seats with cooling grommets, Carroll Shelby door sill plates and a 50th Anniversary dash plaque. It also includes the interior roll bar, Smith gauges, race toggle switches, air conditioning, front vertical and horizontal fins, and red tow hooks. The car comes with a copy of the Certificate of Origin naming Shelby American and is Shelby Registry-eligible. The car is in like-new condition with 330 miles on the build. From The Alan Smith Collection.
