This 2004 Chevrolet Corvette was the official pace car from the 88th Indianapolis 500 on May 30, 2004, and was driven by actor Morgan Freeman. It features a distinctive American red, white and blue paint scheme and specific Indy 500 graphics. Some performance modifications were made to the Corvette to ready it for pace car duties, including a heavy-duty transmission and power steering coolers, lower-restriction exhaust system, two-point racing-type safety belts and a safety strobe light system. For a record sixth time, Corvette 'raced the pack' at that Indy 500 race, and it also marked the third consecutive year and the 15th time overall that a Chevrolet product was the official pace car.
