Details
This highly optioned 1970 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet convertible is powered by a date-code-correct 428 Cobra Jet engine, backed by a cast-iron tailshaft C6 transmission and date-code-correct N-case 3.00-gear ratio limited-slip rear end with 31-spline axles. Only 47 convertibles were built with the 428 Cobra Jet engine, and of those, only 14 were Q-codes: three were painted red, two of which had black deluxe interior and only one of those - this example - had factory air conditioning, which still blows cold. According to paperwork and research done by a previous owner, from 1983-90, the car was originally used by a 22-year-old Ford executive from November 1969 until it was first sold in November 1970. The factory-original options include the 428CJ V8 engine, C6 automatic transmission, Trac-Lok differential, electric clock, F70 tires, deluxe rim-blow steering wheel, console, power disc brakes, power steering, air conditioning, AM radio, Decor Group, tinted glass, deluxe seatbelts, argent-styled steel wheels and front bumper guards. During the car's restoration completed in the early '90s, the previous owner from 1990-2024 added to the factory option list with upgrades such as a factory-style Shaker hood with twist-lock hood pins, Magnum 500 wheels, tilt steering, AM/FM radio, Mach 1-style exhaust tips, a black convertible top to complement the black interior and a blackout 428CJ hood stencil. From 1990-2024 this car was in a climate-controlled private collection in Texas for over 30 years. The car is finished in its original Medium Red color with a black deluxe interior. The engine compartment is highly detailed, as are the undercarriage, suspension and luggage compartment. The car has the correct D0ZF-AD carburetor dated 9O1 with the correct tag, correct D0ZF-G distributer dated 9J25, 9K13 engine block with 9G22 intake manifold, C9ZE fan blade and DOZE-A fan clutch. The car also has correct-style Autolite reproduction shocks, original dated leaf springs, original front and rear sway bars and original-style dual exhaust system. The car still retains its original dash VIN tag, Buck Tag, apron VIN stamping, wraparound shock towers and mostly original sheet metal. Recently serviced and inspected, this car comes with past owner history, including handwritten letters to the Cobra Jet registry, restoration receipts, purchase agreements, framed Elite Marti Report, owner card and a vintage-issue of Super Ford magazine in which this car was featured.
