Details
This custom 1969 Pontiac Firebird sprayed in a PPG British Racing Green color is an award-winning custom BBT Fabrications multiyear 10,000-hour build. Troy Gudgel, SEMA's 2015 Trendsetter Award recipient and nationally renowned custom car builder, spent over four years creating this build from the ground up. It started with a Roadster Shop Fast Track IRS (independent rear suspension) chassis with Penske adjustable coilover shocks and 1,000hp axles as a foundation. Power comes from a Butler Performance all-aluminum 482ci Pontiac engine with twin Precision 68mm turbos tuned by Erin Carpenter of Carma Performance, which was then put into a custom engine bay. All this was mated to an RS Gear T-56 'Tranzilla' 6-speed transmission producing 1,200hp and routed through a Ford 9-inch center section with 3.50 gears spinning Michelin Pilot Sport tires in the rear. This custom ground-up build with every aspect and piece of the vehicle touched, modified, machined or hand-built was created with one-off aluminum parts, including but not limited to a hand-built hood by BBT Fabrications, Greening Auto Company one-off headlights, BBT Fabrications one-off mirrors, air-conditioning vents, door handles, dash knobs, door sills, Pontiac Chief medallions, foot pedals, speaker grilles and headrest mounts, as well as Evod one-off 19-inch wheels, intake, valve covers and taillights. The exterior features ESP Inc.-built upper and lower honeycomb grilles, center console inlay, door pulls, a gauge cluster housing outfitted with Dakota Digital gauges, and hood heat extractors and vents. All these components have a variety of specialized finishes, included nickel-plating, powder-coating, crinkle-coating, thermal-coating and high-quality paint. This vehicle features widened front fenders, flush-mount glass, drip rails removed, custom side-exit exhaust, Inconel-wrapped custom headers and Jet Hot-coated heat shields, to name a few of the many custom details. The interior is a Cato's Custom Moore & Giles leather interior with Coachworks controls, along with a Holley Dominator ECU with traction control. The sale includes a custom Butler Race containment seat and parachute built for easy removal. This no-expense-spared build from the ground up was crafted from top to bottom to safely run 200+ mph in the standing mile and national events. This multi-award-winning resume includes 2023 Barrett-Jackson Cup Best in Show, 2022 Goodguys Street Machine of the Year and 2022 Shades of the Past Street Machine of the Year. The car is also an East Coast Timing Association (Arkansas Mile) 1-Mile and 2K Class RS8/7TG record-holder (200.3 and 213 mph). With approximately 1,000 miles on it since completion, this vehicle can be seen on Autotopia LA's YouTube channel (or search for 'BBT Fab 1969 Firebird'). This vehicle has been featured in Modern Rodding and Wheel Hub magazines. To date, no BBT Fabrications vehicles have been offered for sale.
