Nicknamed the \"Pagoda,\" this 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL roadster is one of the first 600 models ever produced and is powered by a matching-numbers 2.8-liter inline-6 engine mated to a matching-numbers 4-speed automatic transmission (both sets verified by the data card). It was given a detailed and thorough cosmetic restoration, including a full color change, and was repainted in a custom shade of Magnetite Blue. Mechanically, the car received a refresh during the restoration, including new spark plug wires, radiator, oil cooler, fan clutch, voltage regulator and flex disc. Recent service in preparation for the sale involved an oil and filter change, as well as fresh brake fluid and a replacement brake fluid reservoir. The dealer-installed Kühlmeister brand air-conditioning unit blower and compressor are operational, though the air conditioner does not produce cold air. This retractable soft-top convertible does not feature a hardtop. During the restoration, the bumpers and other trim pieces were rechromed or replaced. The original notches on each headlight remain intact and the hood number matches the data card, indicating originality. A small portion of the driver's-side trunk floor was replaced as a minor rust repair. The interior wood trim has been restored to a high standard or replaced. The seats were reupholstered in Parchment-colored leather, the door panels were recovered and matching carpet was installed. The original dash was recovered in leather, matching the rest of the interior, and a Nardi-style wood steering wheel enhances the cabin. The instrument gauges function properly and appear to have been restored. The radio was replaced with an Alpine head unit, which provides hi-fidelity stereo sound through two Infinity speakers mounted on the shelf behind the seats. This example was assembled in Stuttgart, Germany, on January 26, 1968. The sale includes a spare tire and tire jack, a Mercedes-Benz tool roll complete with original Mercedes tools, and a replacement data card listing the original equipment and options. The five-digit odometer reads 16,541 actual miles. **TITLED AS 1968 MERZ UNKNOWN**
