Details

Nicknamed "Phantom," this four-year detailed and professional build started with a 1968 Ford Mustang fastback shell with shock towers removed and welded steel inserts, CDC Flashback one-piece custom front clip, and handmade 4-inch cowl and fiberglass hood with reverse scoops. The rear seats were deleted with two flip-door compartments to enclose stereo system amplifiers, subwoofer and the electrical hub for the fuse box. The powerplant is a Ford Racing 408ci V8 Windsor stroker engine with MSD Blaster EFI direct multi-port electronic fuel injection and nitrous-capable with a Zex Perimeter nitrous system, as well as a polished bottle and billet aluminum bracket, remote opener, bottle warmer and Rapid-Fire dual LED purge kit (not installed). When operational, the nitrous system can be operated two ways: auto mode through MSD RPM-activated window switch with 3000-rpm start chip and 6000-rpm stop chip and manual mode push-button. The performance products installed during the build include CNC-polished and ported Trick Flow 205cc aluminum heads, coated Hooker custom headers, MagnaFlow exhaust with 3-inch mandrel-bent stainless-steel X-pipe and MagnaFlow polished stainless-steel oval tips, Scorpion aluminum roller rockers, Comp Cams XFI236HR custom grind roller cam, Comp Cams valve springs and hydraulic roller lifters, ARP pushrods, Probe aluminum pistons, Scat rotating assembly and H-beam forged connecting rods, Ford Racing deep sump 7-quart oil pan with Melling high-volume pump, PRO Products high-rise polished aluminum intake, AccuFab polished aluminum throttle body, Concept 1 polished aluminum water pump, Concept 1 polished aluminum serpentine pulley system, Concept 1 polished aluminum alternator and polished aluminum power steering pump, WalBro dual 255 electric fuel pumps c/w 5/8-inch feed and 3/8-inch return stainless-steel fuel lines, custom aluminum fuel cell, custom-etched polished aluminum valve covers and air cleaner, MSD 6AL ignition system with dual dial soft-touch rev limiter, MSD remote programmable LED shift light (not installed), MSD 8578 billet distributor and Ford Racing 9mm spark plug wires. The engine is cooled by a Griffin 3-inch aluminum radiator with Zirgo 3600 cfm electric fan and Concept 1 dual polished aluminum overflow tanks for coolant and washer fluid. It is equipped with a high-torque mini-starter, a polished aluminum dual-inlet crank case ventilation reservoir, CenterForce SFI steel flywheel with aluminum insert and McLeod RST twin-disc 10.5-inch hydraulic clutch assembly. Power is backed by a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission RestoMod Speed Shift super-short-throw billet shifter, with a custom aluminum driveshaft, Moser 9-inch True posi-traction with 3.89 gears and Moser 31-spline axles. Stopping is provided by a Wilwood power brake booster and master cylinder, Wilwood SuperLite 13-inch slotted and drilled front discs with 6-piston calipers, and Moser 11.5-inch Explorer slotted discs with 4-piston calipers. It sits on a Heidts Mustang II independent front suspension with polished power rack & pinion steering. This Mustang rolls on 18x8-inch Shelby-style front wheels, and rear 18x10-inch Shelby-style wheels.
