Details
This 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 Lightweight re-creation represents the 212 factory Lightweights produced for the model year. It underwent a frame-off rotisserie restoration, during which attention was paid to the frame, body and underside, using original or OEM parts. It is powered by a 427ci V8 engine with NHRA-approved aluminum RC bellhousing, backed by a T10 aluminum case 4-speed transmission. As with original Lightweights to reduce weight, the factory added a fiberglass hood, trunk lid, front fenders, inner fenders, aluminum front and rear bumper attaching brackets and Bostrum special lightweight bucket seats. In February 1963, a memo from Ford announced the start of "Special Lightweight Racing." The lightweight package merchandised through the DSO system was based on white Galaxie 500 Sport Special Tudor Hardtop-model with standard transmission and 95-code all-red vinyl trim. The lightweight conversion package option number is AS-225-39D, which includes the special operating and lightweight components shown on the attachment. No other special equipment was production installed on these vehicles. The Norfolk and Los Angeles assembly plants built these units. The earliest production availability for the lightweight vehicle was early March 1963.
