Details

This is a Volo Museum re-creation of the "Clampett Jalopy/Swamp Rat" as seen in "The Beverly Hillbillies" television series. Continuing to delight several generations of TV viewers in syndication today, "The Beverly Hillbillies" originally aired from 1962 to 1971 on CBS and enjoyed immense success, despite scathing early critical reviews. Starring an ensemble cast portraying the simple, moral, and kind Clampett family who accidentally struck oil on their Ozark mountain homestead, the program chronicled the family's hilarious attempts to adapt to their new Beverly Hills surroundings. As the story goes, a dilapidated early-1920s jalopy wagon faithfully transported The Clampetts and their homespun possessions to their California mansion. Show producer Paul Henning asked George Barris to create a suitable vehicle worthy of a John Steinbeck novel for the fictional family. Mr. Barris delivered on his promise with a soon-to-be-iconic jalopy wagon, constructed using an early-1920s Oldsmobile base, a vintage Ford truck chassis and the Clampett family's worthy possessions. Several replicas were built in addition to the original TV vehicle and regardless of their provenance, all command admirers wherever one appears today. Purchased by Dr. Berkowitz in late 2012 from the noted Volo Auto Museum in Illinois, this highly engaging replica of the Hillbilly truck began as a 1921 Ford Model T, according to the vehicle's Indiana title document issued in 1924. Ready for further display, this fun tribute to the original TV vehicle is ready for continued display, adorned by an early-1920s style Oldsmobile-style radiator shell, distressed paint finish, a spare wheel and tire mounted on the hood, old suitcases, a side-mounted ladder and two barrels of Granny Moses' indispensable home-brewed "rheumatism cure," plus other necessities of life. From The Dr. Stewart A. Berkowitz Collection. **TITLED AS 1921 OLDSMOBILE SPECON** **SOLD ON BONDED TITLE** **TITLE IN TRANSIT**
