Description
This 1972 Mercedes-Benz 450SL with 108,137 actual miles is offered in Gray Blue Metallic with a beautiful blue interior. The Mercedes 450SL has significance beyond its appeal as a desirable or prestigious two-seater touring car. Its fuel-injected 4.5-liter V8 Daimler-Benz-developed engine uses Elasto-Statik-Element-Methode (ESEM), which utilizes a computer to analyze each element of a structure in terms of its contribution to the total strength of the unit, an increasingly important consideration in maximizing strength without adding excessive amounts of unneeded material and weight. The Mercedes-Benz SL series started out as the top-of-the-line sports luxury tourer that offered both performance and comfort. Produced from 1971 all the way to 1989, the R107 was of the longest produced and most successful Mercedes-Benz models. The United States was an extremely popular market for the personal luxury coupe and almost all the SLs were sold here. The 450SL was sold in the U.S. until October 1972 with a 4.5-liter V8, which was not yet available in Europe and as such was marketed as a 350SL during that time. You could ask the dealer to put a 450SL badge on the car, and Mercedes-Benz officially began to badge them correctly starting in October 1972. As a May 1972 production model, this car would have had a 350SL badge from the factory, and it would have been up to the dealer or customer to have the 'correct' 450SL badge placed on the car. It was a model that offered an excellent blend of both efficiency and V8 performance. This was the definition of peak luxury in the '70s. It's sporty and fun to drive yet it still provides the smooth driving experience Mercedes owners come to expect. The ability to take the hardtop off for the warm months completely transforms this vehicle. This example comes with amenities such as air conditioning, dual-side rear-view mirrors, power windows and door pockets for added storage convenience. The front folding armrest and center console offer additional comfort and practicality. The dashboard analog clock adds a touch of vintage charm. This car comes with the soft-top, which is in excellent condition and functions as it should. Powering this gorgeous cruiser is a very well-sorted 4.5-liter V8 engine mated to a smooth automatic transmission. Features of the Mercedes include 4-wheel power disc brakes, power steering, power windows, working heat, front and rear independent suspension and more. Options on this vehicle include a central locking system and instruments with English lettering (467), U.S. version (491), outside rearview mirror (on the right; 502), Becker Grand Prix radio (519), Behr air conditioner and electric window lifters (front doors; 585) and heat-insulating glass (593).
Was delivered in Gray Blue Metallic over a blue interior with a factory hardtop and soft-top. Powered by a 4.5-liter V8 engine that produces 215hp. Features alloy wheels and a contrasting Dark Metallic Blue paint on the hardtop.
