One of only 518 produced, this 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible is documented in the Shelby Registry as Shelby No. 03456. In 1968, the production of Shelby GTs was taken over by Ford and moved to an A.O. Smith facility in Livonia, MI, but Shelby still held enough influence to create yet another future classic: the GT500KR, the initials standing for 'King of the Road.' When 1968 GT500 production began, the cars were equipped as before with the Shelby-spec 428/360hp Police Interceptor big-block

engine. But then, on April 1, Ford announced its brand-new 428 Cobra Jet engine. Shipped new from Ford's Wixom, MI, plant to Metke Ford Motors Inc. in Bellevue, WA, on July 30, 1968, this 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible was factory-finished in Acapulco Blue but was later repainted in its present Brittany Blue. A C6 Select-Shift 3-speed automatic transmission, 3.50:1 Traction-Lok differential, power steering and power brakes with front discs complement its 428ci Cobra Jet engine. Completed with a black Deluxe Mustang interior, power-operated white top with glass backlite and Firestone tires on 15x7 Shelby 10-spoke aluminum wheels, it is optioned with the Visibility Group, tilt-away steering wheel, AM radio and the Interior Decor Group. Documented with a Deluxe Marti Report, this beautifully preserved GT500KR convertible is an outstanding example of the one-year-only KR.
