Details
In 1957 a privateer racer took his Alfa Romeo to Zagato to build him a more competitive race car. Zagato stripped away the original steel, blocky body and replaced it with a lightweight aero dynamic body using all aluminum and plexiglass to save weight. The new design was an instant winner. In 1959 Alfa contracted Zagato to build around 200 of these special bodied racers on their Guiletta chassis. Just over 220 were built from 1956-60. Each one is handmade and therefore there are slight variations in every car. This example was purchased by its current owner in 1998 and underwent a full and complete 2-year restoration in 2006-08. It has since enjoyed an occasional rally or two, but is still in near-perfect condition.
