Details
This 1951 Mercury custom coupe is known on international show circuit as 'Ecstasy.' This one-of-a-kind custom hot rod has been modified to a high level. The extensive body modifications on this coupe include suicide doors, a 4.5-inch chop, custom glass, a 1949 Mercury rear window that was raked over to match roof line changes and fully smoothed body lines that include the removal of the door handles, drips rails and much of the factory trim and emblems. The front of this Mercury features a DeSoto front chrome grille and frenched-in headlights with a factory chromed front bumper. The hood has been modified with a front-flip, tilt-hinge clamshell-style opening. The rear end features a set of 1959 Cadillac taillight lenses that have been frenched into the reshaped body, along with a frenched-in antenna and sunken chrome bumper. The finishes on this lead sled include show-quality two-tone paint that carries its theme to the underside of the body, frame, engine compartment, engine block and door jambs. The paint was laid down by David Ross, which is shown by his signature Rat Rod design in the driver's door jamb. The full custom leather interior was completed by The Recovery Room out of Bradford, AR, and features two-tone leather seats with the Mercury Roman god winged-hat logo embroidered into the headrests, two-tone leather door panels, leather headliner, leather floor panels and custom full-length leather center console. The billet tilt steering column holds a custom billet steering wheel wrapped in matching leather, and the center console holds the Hurst shift knob with a custom leather shift boot. The trunk is fully finished in leather and carries the same attention to detail as the interior. Powering this
1951 Mercury custom is a 460ci Thunderbird engine with dual carburetors, and the engine block, valve covers and intake are color-matched to the exterior paint scheme. The custom smoothed firewall also features the two-tone exterior paint scheme. This Mercury's underside is fully finished off with a smoothed body-color frame and floors. It features a custom rear end with inboard disc brakes and coilover suspension. It sits on a custom-made set of billet wheels that carry the 'Ecstasy' name on the center cap. Most of the electrical wiring and system lines have been tucked and hidden from sight, leaving a seamless look. This Mercury competed in the show circuit, including the Grand National Roadster Show, Portland Roadster Show and many more.
