Co-starring SNL alumni Chris Farley and David Spade, Lorne Michaels' 1995 comedy hit 'Tommy Boy' needs no introduction to millions of fans. Several classic Mopar convertibles were hilariously used on Tommy and Richard's attempts to save the Callahan auto-parts company, and this 1967 Plymouth Satellite convertible is strongly believed one of them. According to an in-depth May 2020 Mopar Collector's Guide feature, the Plymouth's prior owner acquired it via auction from Cinema Vehicle Services,
LLC, of North Hollywood, CA, where it had long resided. During a post-purchase visit, a senior company representative immediately recalled the Plymouth and verbally confirmed it was a 'Tommy Boy' car, but legalities precluded written confirmation. Physical evidence reveals it is quite likely a former stunt car with front towing brackets allowing through-the-windshield sequences to be filmed behind a camera truck, an added electric cooling fan, and non-stock electric line-lock brake valves on the firewall and driver's side frame rail for spins and lurid stops. A foam-filled 5-gallon fuel cell replaced the OEM fuel tank and rear air shocks were added, with the chassis otherwise stock. Like the other movie cars, this Plymouth includes a front bench, 22-inch radiator and 383ci V8 engine, dressed as a 440 and mated to a column-shifted TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Chrome Cragar S/S wheels and BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires are consistent with the other movie cars. Interestingly, the driver's side air-cleaner inlet was removed, possibly for the disastrous gas-station setup to the movie's infamous open-hood scene. Other film and TV appearances likely followed for this hard-working vehicle, and by 2010, it certainly appeared in Katy Perry's 2010 'Teenage Dream' music video from the hit album of the same name, with Mopar Collector's Guide citing the video car's heavily distressed paint, front towing brackets and missing upper grille element - all consistent features with the Plymouth offered here. Offered with an Arizona title document and state-assigned VIN, this 1967 Plymouth Satellite convertible will make a fun cruiser for a confirmed 'Tommy Boy' movie buff.
