Description

Summary

Beautifully restored Packard. Powered by a 319ci Straight-8 engine and 3-speed manual transmission. AACA and CCCA Senior award winner.

Details

This car was in the long-term ownership of a dedicated marque enthusiast and lifelong CCCA and AACA member, who commissioned its restoration in 2003.The Packard is powered by a 319ci Straight-8 engine and 3-speed manual transmission. The previous owner purchased the car in 1956 from the Carriage Cavalcade Automobile Museum in Silver Springs, FL. After performing a minor service, he drove the car regularly in club events and tours for nearly 50 years, performing light restoration work only as

needed along the way. Thanks to years of continuous care and maintenance, the Packard was in surprisingly good condition and the ideal basis for a straightforward restoration, which commenced in 2003. Inspiration for the vivid orange and brown came from a period advertisement that hung in the previous owner’s garage, who felt the colors suited the sporty and purposeful nature of the factory runabout coachwork. After its high-quality restoration, the car now presents in lovely condition, displaying a gently mellowed character from continued enjoyment. Fittingly for the sporty runabout roadster, the body is relatively unadorned with accessories to clutter up the elegant lines. Features include dual side-mount spare wheels, body-color grille slats, a trunk rack with a covered trunk, and purposeful blackwall tires. The paint and brightwork are excellent, appearing well-maintained and well-suited for touring and casual show. Dark brown leather complements the color scheme nicely, and is finished to a high standard. Interior fittings include linoleum and pyramid-pattern cast aluminum floors, and beautifully restored instrumentation set in a wood-grain pattern fascia. Under-hood presentation is similarly tidy, with correct Packard green paint on the block and head, atop the silver-painted crankcase, with proper hardware, wiring and finishes. The effort put into the restoration of this highly desirable Packard roadster culminated with a CCCA Senior Award in 2013, followed shortly afterward by an AACA Senior National First Prize.
