Description

Exquisite full-size transportation-themed carousel manufactured by Wilhelm Hennecke of Germany in 1957. One of only five imported to the United States and Canada during the 1950s, it is considered to be the finest surviving example. The craftsmanship of the era is exemplified in this fully functional piece, which is beautifully constructed with 27 hand-built transportation-related vehicles. Stunning colors and design make this truly a piece of magnificent mechanical art. The vehicles are handmade of wood with impressive leather interiors, complete with working headlights and taillights. Vehicles include a period Mercedes-Benz firetruck with hand-carved fireman on a ladder, a sky tram with leather interior and a 4-door Flitzer with opening doors. Other cars include wonderful Mercedes 190, an Alfa Romeo 2000 and two Flitzers (means fast car in German). There are also six Vespa-style scooters and six Kano Manufacturing bicycles, two airplanes, and six Sachs 50 CC motorcycles (real motorcycles with replacement wooden tanks). The condition of the vehicles is original, with no restoration needed. Beautifully illuminated with over 1,500 6-watt lightbulbs. Probably the finest original of its kind in the world. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy. Size: 32" in diameter, 16" in height.
