Details
This is the last Boyd Coddington '40 Ford Deluxe convertible/hardtop that was a work in progress at the time of Boyd's death. It has many body modifications including custom chassis, independent front and rear end, all-steel body without any Bondo, new floors and firewall, power disc brakes, steering with stainless custom lines and is drivable with 2004 LS motor and 4-speed automatic transmission. The car was designed by Boyd to be a birthday present for his wife, Jo Coddington. It was to be the
sister to her iconic '40 Ford Coupe poster car. The plan was to finish it in Boyd Black PPG paint. The one-of-a-kind, hand-formed aluminum single-piece removable hardtop was executed by Marcel DeLay and Sons at the Marcel's Custom Body Works shop, where the car was located at the time of Boyd's death. The current owner purchased the car and has stored it since that time. The car can be seen in the background in many of the episodes of Boyd's TV series, 'American Hot Rod.' It is registered in California as a 1940 Ford Convertible.
