2006 SHELBY MUSTANG HERTZ 'SERIAL #001'

In 2006, Ford Motor Company, Shelby Automobiles and the Hertz car rental agency celebrated the 40th anniversary of the original 1966 Shelby GT350H Mustang with a run of 500 Mustang Shelby GT-H coupes. Like the first program from the '60s (during which 1,003 were built), final assembly was performed by Carroll Shelby employees at the Shelby modification center, which by 2006 was located in Las Vegas, NV. The collaboration was the first official Shelby-massaged Mustang since the 1970 model year,

and it opened the door for subsequent offerings like the 2007-up Mustang Shelby GT and GT500. Bearing Shelby VIN #001, this car was the very first GT-H coupe built and was Carroll Shelby's personal vehicle when new. It is also one of only four 2006 GT-H Mustangs equipped with the 5-speed manual transmission. To minimize potential abuse, the other 496 2006 GT-H rental cars received Ford's 4-speed automatic transmission. Like all Shelby GT-H Mustangs, Carroll Shelby's car is equipped with the Ford Racing FR1 Power Pack consisting of a 90mm cold-air kit, high-flow mufflers, X-pipe and after-cat tubing, as well as the Ford Racing FR3 Race Handling Pack's special shocks, lowering springs, sway bars, strut tower brace and special rear axle ratio. For extra acceleration, Shelby requested the 4.10 rear axle ratio instead of the 3.55:1 gears fitted to the other 499 cars. It's good to be The Boss - and yes, the dash has been autographed.
