Details

The 1968 Shelby GT500 KR embodies the spirit of Carroll Shelby, melding performance and styling into a wonderfully balanced vehicle worthy of being called 'The King of the Road.' 1968 Shelbys were hand-assembled by Ford subcontractor A.O. Smith with supervision from Shelby. The KR was a late addition to the 1968 Shelby offering, powered by Ford's new 428 Cobra Jet engine, conservatively rated at 335hp. The addition of the fiberglass nose with inset Lucas Fog Lamps, hood, deck lid, tail light

panel, end caps and scoops transformed the exterior of the 1968. The interior shifted from the Spartan interiors of the early Shelby's to a more refined, European influenced style. It now featured a unique center console with integrated Stewart Warner gauges, woodgrain accents throughout the cabin, unique 140mph speedometer and 8,000rpm tachometer as well as a padded roll bar with retractable shoulder belts. This beautifully restored example, car #4003, was ordered in iconic Wimbledon White with black decor interior and optioned with power disc brakes, power steering, shoulder harnesses, fold-down rear seat, AM radio and tilt-away steering wheel. It boasts a highly detailed 428 Cobra Jet motor backed by a Top Loader 4-speed transmission and high nodular content rear end. The restoration focused on authenticity and preservation, the undercarriage boasts nearly all original red oxide floors with original factory overspray. The front and rear suspension, including the staggered rear shock setup unique to only 4-speed cars, are highly detailed showing factory paint marks throughout. It rides on Shelby 10-spoke wheels wrapped in Goodyear Speedway tires. It is documented by The SAAC Registry, the original individual order form, a copy of the original invoice, the original warranty plate, the Buck Tag and Marti Report. Original documents are included. 32,000 actual miles, title reads exempt.
