Between 1961 and 1968, approximately 800 customers experienced the wonder of the Amphicar, the world's only open-body compact car that could be driven directly into a lake or calm sea — and piloted like a small boat. Of the 800 Amphicars built by IWK (a West German manufacturer controlled by American business investors), roughly 600 were imported to the United States and bought by folks attracted to its claim of being 'the sport car that swims.' This example is a fully restored specimen based on a rust-free hull that is fully ready for water and land-bound adventure. The crucial door seals and latches are as-new and the 1.14 Liter Triumph Herald-sourced inline four is fresh and ready to go. The folding top is present and free of damage, as are the seats and instrument panel. Far from an impractical publicity stunt, every Amphicar is a true dual-purpose vehicle, a fact proven when a team of four soldiers crossed the English Channel aboard two Amphicars in 1965. Don't miss your chance to own a superb example of this exotic bit of automotive history.
