Details

The 1968 Shelby GT500 KR embodies the spirit and bravado of Carroll Shelby, effortlessly melding high performance and beautiful styling into a wonderfully balanced vehicle worthy of being called The King of the Road. Hand-assembled by A.O. Smith and ordered under special DSO, completed on June 19, 1968 and sold through Georgia Shelby dealer East Point Ford. One of only 22 built in Raven Black with white top. It has its original sheet metal and Shelby fiberglass. Meticulously restored to concours

standards by trained craftsman over a period of two years using as many NOS and original parts as possible. The KR was powered by Ford's new for 1968 428 Cobra Jet engine, conservatively rated at 335hp. Has a beautifully detailed example, date-code correct for its build and restored to factory specifications. No previous owner has reported removing the original engine. It is backed by its original serialized Top Loader 4-speed manual transmission and high nodular content rear case. A detailed documentation book compiled during the restoration includes all casting numbers and date codes found on the car. The VIN was found in both the right front fender apron and under the original Shelby VIN tag. The Shelby interior for 1968 offered upgrades over the standard Mustang. It retains its original Shelby console and lid, Stewart Warner green line gauges, 140mph speedometer, 8,000 tachometer and the original padded roll bar. It was optioned with black decor bucket seats, tilt-away steering column, AM radio and the Interior Decor Group. It rides on Shelby 10 spoke wheels wrapped in period correct Goodyear Speedway large letter tires. It retains its other Shelby unique parts including Lucas fog lamps and sequential taillights. It is documented by The Shelby World Registry, the original order sheets, a copy of the original invoice, the original warranty plate, the Buck Tag and the Elite Marti Report. Original documents are included. 42,170 actual miles.
