Description

Summary

This is an original and well documented RO23 A990 1965 Plymouth Belvedere I 426/425hp HEMI lightweight that was factory backed by Chrysler. Sold on Bill of Sale only.

Details

This car was ordered new from Chrysler by Chuck Ostrich out of Nevada, Iowa. When the car arrived it was never unloaded off the transporter, Chuck and his son Gary followed the truck driver back to Detroit, MI where it was given to Dick Branstner. Dick owned a performance shop in Detroit. After making modifications to the engine and transmission the vehicle was shipped back to Iowa to begin its racing career. It is documented in the Maximum Performance book as being one of the first Super Stock cars to run in the 10's, with stock wheelbase configuration. Gary continued the driving duties for his father and went on to dominate and earn the attention of Chrysler. At that point the factory paid to have the car shipped to Ted Detars shop in Wichita, KS to have the wheelbase altered. Chrysler continued to back this local hometown car as it dominated not only local but nationally sanctioned events all over the Midwest and Northeast. Gary went on to win a Championship at Cardova, IL. This car was found in a barn in Iowa and retained its as raced configuration in 1966 when it won the World Finals. The Midwest rust-free body was then rotisserie stripped and painted back to its as raced condition with the help and guidance of Gary Ostrich using old photos and memory. The engine is date code correct and was built by the legendary racer Larry Griffith using all period correct components including Hilborn Fuel Injection and original 1965 date coded Alcoa aluminum heads. This is a warrior of a lost era, that is not only a factory built but factory backed progression of drag racing history. **SOLD ON BILL OF SALE ONLY**
