A design masterpiece of the immediate pre-war era as well as a lasting tribute to the inspired genius of E.T. 'Bob' Gregorie and Edsel Ford, the 1940 Ford model line successfully incorporated the revolutionary styling influence of the original Lincoln-Zephyr. Handsome, modern, comfortable and powerful, the 1940 Ford possessed a rare visual perfection that belied its relatively humble beginnings. The first owner of this show stopping 1940 Ford convertible coupe commissioned the highly respected
Hot Rod Service Company of Campbell, California to undertake a ground-up 'restification' in 2006, resulting in this multiple award winning automobile. Unlike the multitude of fiberglass-bodied clones available today, this car features an all-steel, original 1940 Ford body down to the running boards. The amazingly and expertly prepared bodywork includes many subtle custom touches that complement the beautiful original bodylines including shaved door handles, mildly frenched taillights, removed bumpers and dual exhaust outlets within the rear valance panel, among other features. A beautiful show-quality silver R-M Diamont paint finish, the same coating system specified by Bentley for its production cars, is combined with expert fit and finish by Nor-Cal Auto of Campbell, California. A beautiful convertible top and a set of unique polished billet aluminum wheels, shod in BFGoodrich high performance tires, complete the exterior. Inside, the beautifully stitched, heavy grain leather upholstery includes a custom floor console and was expertly fitted by the renowned firm of Ron Mangus Custom Hot Rod Interiors, while a Flaming River tilt steering column, air conditioning, Classic Instruments and a remotely controlled Panasonic sound system round out the interior appointments. Mechanically, power is provided by a highly polished and detailed 4.6L Ford Mustang Cobra engine with dual overhead camshafts and fuel injection, backed by a high-tech Ford 4R70W 5-speed automatic overdrive transmission and a stout 9' Ford rear end assembly. Underneath, the Ford is fitted with a full Air Ride Technologies suspension, including a 4-link arrangement at the rear, while braking is handled by a set of 11' disc brakes front and rear. Shortly after completion, the Ford made its show debut at the prestigious 2008 Grand National Roadster Show, where it placed First in Class, continuing to dominate the West Coast show circuit ever since. Other awards include 2008 Sacramento Autorama First in Class. 2008 invitation-only Fresno Autorama Outstanding Elegance Award, one of just eight cars invited twice in the 50-year history of this show. 2008 Goodguys Del Mar Nationals Roush Ford in a Ford award and Boyd Coddington Pro Pick. 2008 Cool April Nights Show, one of only 20 cars invited to attend. 2008 Goodguys West Coast Nationals Foose Pro Pick and Best Ride on BFGoodrich tires and more.
