Jaguar's William Lyons had an innate, subjective sense of style and design which distinguished Jaguars from their earliest days. But nothing anticipated the reception for the postwar XK 120 and its successor the XK 140. Their engine, a 3.4 liter dual overhead camshaft 6 was nothing less than state-of-the-art, a design that challenged cars like Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari costing two, three or four times as much.
