Details

This Chevy began life as a light duty delivery truck for James Holt, owner of RW Rush Grocery in Thaxton, VA. In 1966, Joseph Porter purchased the truck he had admired as a boy growing up. The Grocery name was still legible across the driver door after all those years. In 2002, I purchased the truck in Roanoke, VA, and began restoration in 2004 and completed the project late 2009. Despite decades of neglect and storage, the '37 had survived remarkably well as originality prevailed. The front end

assembly showed minimal wear and continues to host the original seat and interior items. Many original components have survived the 73 years. All exterior brightwork, including front and rear bumpers, had the aging original finish, so all were re-plated. Re-plating the original grille was so labor intensive that it was replaced in 2008. The original floor survived with little rust. Many interior and exterior brightwork parts remain untouched to this day. The original tailgate, running boards, rear fenders and gas tank were replaced. The truck bed has been replaced with hand hewn planed oak boards. The interior retains its original appearance of no heater/defroster or AM radio. The optional commercial suspension and differential continue to deliver power to the rear wheels today. The original vacuum wiper is for display only. The swing-out front windshield remains operational. Many years of paint layers were stripped prior to prep and application of the Balboa Blue and silver metallic, polyurethane base/clear coat. Don't let the original appearance fool you. The 235cid with dual Rochester carburetors, Offenhauser aluminum intake, Doug Thorley headers and dual glass packs say anything but original.
