The exterior styling of the 1962 was mildly face-lifted with Bill Mitchell's duck tail rear end, de-emphasized body side cove sculpture and a simplified mesh blacked out grille. It was the last of the straight axle Corvettes and was the first to offer a 327cid/300hp small block V8. This design had reached its pinnacle in styling and performance that year, only then to be replaced with a whole new model. Total production was only 14,531 for 1962, thus one of the reasons, besides being the

prettiest of the first generation solid axle cars, for its high collectible status. This Corvette has received a ground-up restoration to a very, very good original car that was so clean. It didn't need the body taken off and still has never had it removed. Go ahead and look close. It is powered by a period-correct but replacement 327/300hp engine with a 4-speed transmission. Finished in the striking and very rare, seldom seen black-on-black color combination with a white softtop for that glamorous Tuxedo look. Because of its fiberglass body, not many cars were esthetically straight enough to be black, hence the reason for such low numbers. This is and always has been a completely stock car, even still retaining its original working Wonder Bar radio. Presently rolling on nostalgic Torque Thrust wheels and radial tires which makes it a pleasure to drive, but it also includes its original hubcaps in the trunk for that 100% stock look. If you want the best look of all, and never be concerned about another similar car at any show or cruise, go ahead and stick that chest out, cause black is where it's at.
