Description

Summary

Mardi Gras Red with buckskin leather interior. Original Black Plate California car since new. Same owner for 33 years. 79,000 actual miles.

Details

This 300G convertible is 1 of only 337 made. It is refinished in its correct Mardi Gras red and correct tan leather swivel seats. The car was sold new in May 1961 in Northern California and has been a California car all its life. Notice the original Black California license plates. I purchased this 300 in Los Gatos, CA, in Nov. 1974, when I was young. The car was a nice original car with 56,000 miles on it. It now has 79,000 actual miles. This vehicle is a combination original/restored original. It has been repainted only once in 1976 in the correct color on a very straight body (only minor dings). As you can see, the paint and body still look excellent. All the chrome is original (not re-plated) with exception of the bumpers (1976) and tail light housings (1981). Even the taillights and parking lenses are the original. The top was replaced in 2006 with the correct material. The car has always been garaged. The interior is mostly the original from 1961 including the dash, pad, the door panels, consoles, sun visors and beautiful original clear and black steering wheel and horn ring. The seats and carpeting are Gary Goers and were redone in 1981 and are correct. In 2006-2007, the car underwent a major mechanical restoration including complete engine rebuild, new motor mounts, transmission, rear end (as necessary), new water pump, new hoses and belts, new plugs, wires and carbs rebuilt, radiator, front end (as necessary) and much more. In addition, the engine compartment, including all components, was professionally repainted in correct colors and then clear coated. Total cost of upgrades was over $17,000 and have receipts. This 300 runs and drives beautifully with no known problems or issues. Everything in the car works well including all the power equipment, radio, heater and clock. The lighter does not work. Original equipment includes TorqueFlite transmission, correct and original 413/375hp Ram-Induction engine, power steering, brakes, seat and windows, original radio, heater and remote mirror. The spare tire even is the original Goodyear Blue Streak wide white tire. In my 33 years of ownership, the car has won somewhere near 25-30 awards including two Best of Show Awards. In addition, the car has been featured in many books and magazines including the cover of 'Collectible Automobile' in Oct. 2007, 'Automobile Quarterly' in 1975, plus many more. It was also featured in a TV commercial for Very Fine Juice and was photographed to appear on 'The Amazing Race' TV series in 2007. In conclusion, while not a flawless show car, this '61 Chrysler 300G convertible is probably the best remaining original in existence of the 337 made. It has given me great pleasure and enjoyment for the past 33 years and I have many happy memories. However, it is now time to let someone else be its caretaker and find the enjoyment that I have had.
