To add to their sporty performance image, the 1979 Trans Am had a new distinctive front and rear appearance and a revised engine lineup. The grille has a horizontal pattern integrated into the bumper and 4 rectangular headlamps recessed individually into the front panel. The tail lamps for the Trans Am feature a new for 1979 black lens appearance across the entire rear that turns red when the lights are activated.
