Type 181, or The Thing, in this Acapulco variant, was original designed for use at the Las Brisas resort in Acapulco, Mexico. It was so popular that is was added to the US VW market. This premium re-creation is true to the unique original style.
Details
VW Thing meticulously restored in Acapulco style and flavor. This Acapulco re-creation features the eye-popping blue and white paint job and open air surrey top with its unmistakable blue and white stripes and matching interior. Four removable door and five person capacity was the priority of the original Las Brisas hotel for ease carrying newlyweds and vacationers, and their beach gear, to the resort amenities. This particular 1973 Thing has been privileged to a complete body-off restoration.
Powdercoated pan and many suspension pieces make this vehicle look as nice on the bottom as the top. Every piece has been replaced, painted or plated. Rebuilt original style 1,600cc engine with Thing case numbers. Factory two-tip exhaust and correct air cleaner and tins. Rebuilt transmission, Thing specific heavy duty CV's and stub axles. All new rubbers and seals. Powdercoated wheels and drums. All new brakes. Rebuilt front and rear suspension. Less than 100 miles since full meticulous restoration.
