In 1979, VW discontinued the original Bug. In 1979 to early 1980, the last 900 Bugs to come off the Karman line were known as the Epilogue Edition. In homage to the original Bug, they were all in triple-black. Each dealer in the United States was given just one. This car was sold at a Connecticut dealer and, although it changed hands twice, it has been in storage for 35 years. The car has only 5,000 original miles (mileage not indicated on the ownership documents). Due to the length of time in
storage, a light restoration has been done. The top, brakes, fluids, front seat stuffing and tie arms have been replaced. This car was brought out of storage specifically for this auction. It is all original, with the exception of the mechanicals mentioned, as if it just came out of the showroom. This car is quite the head-turner and is a true piece of automobile history. It is amazing to drive a 37-year-old Bug with no squeaks or rattles. It features a 4-cylinder engine with a 4-speed manual transmission. This car is a joy to drive.
