SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. Jan. 17, 2020 – Barrett-Jackson, The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions, announced today that it will auction the 1963 Modena Spyder California, serial number GTC0001 (Lot #1378), made famous as the number one hero car in the iconic 1980s film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” during this year’s 49th Annual Scottsdale Auction, January 11-19, 2020. Built by Modena Design & Development, this Spyder is one of three Modenas used for the filming of the iconic movie and will be offered at No Reserve.
“We’re excited to add this incredible Modena to an already thrilling docket of cars featured in some of our favorite Hollywood blockbusters,” said Craig Jackson chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “The cult classic film ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ made this Modena an instant classic among collectors and movie fans. This was the first of the three Spyders sold to Paramount and when you see it in person, I’m confident it will bring back great memories of this iconic film.”
This GTC001 received a recent body-off restoration by Neil Glassmoyer, one of the founders of Modena Design. It is powered by a 427ci stroker V8 engine, fed by a 750 CFM Demon 4-barrel carburetor atop an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold and aluminum heads. The luxurious interior and top boot were completely recovered with high-quality tan hides. The dashboard features a GPS speedometer and a Retrosound radio with Bluetooth and two Blaupunkt amplifiers in the trunk powering 14 hidden speakers.
“Barrett-Jackson knows how to bring the entertainment to the auction block in every way imaginable,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “When this newly restored Spyder crosses the block, it is sure to be the biggest star in the room. I think every fan of the film will go to Bueller-like extremes for a chance to be here and bid on this cult-classic movie Spyder.”
This famous Modena includes movie memorabilia including photos, signed build photos, a 1/24-scale diecast model and a Hot Wheels car. It also is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Modena Design & Development.
