Radical ride: This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette 327/400 Custom Coupe (Lot #768) will be crossing the Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction block in June.
When the third-generation Corvette first appeared for 1968, the design seemed over the top for many traditional enthusiasts. On the other hand, many ’Vette lovers thought the new body style was a great platform for personalized restyling. It seems likely the C3 has become the most customized sports car in the world, judging by all those Hollywood B-movies with radically modified versions flying down countless roads and highways.
Since the name “Batmobile” was always uttered in the presence of 1968-82 Corvettes, the ’68 model (Lot #768) selling at No Reserve at the Northeast Auction makes it easy to see what all the talk was about. This dramatic but high-quality custom represents an imaginary vision, yet it’s able to deliver the sight, sound and thrill that the car’s image promises. The workmanship is flawless and the lines still maintain a visually tasty proportion from all angles.
Under the hood a classic 327 small block generates 400 horsepower, and a period-correct 4-speed manual transmission passes those ponies to the rear tires. The car’s interior is amazing. The dashboard began life in a ’55 Corvette and now sports modern gauges throughout. The front of the car was created with an upside-down rendition of a Camaro nose piece for a breathtaking finished design.
The hood is operated hydraulically for easy access when you want to show off the engine to your friends. Air conditioning and a removable roof make cruising through any season a pleasure. Custom leather seats are cross-stitched along their edges for an incredibly detailed, even exotic-looking, visual and tactile effect.
A unique interior roofline with flame job further highlights the one-of-a-kind driver’s compartment. The car offers a great ride, and does so utilizing 18-inch Foose wheels and proper Yokohama tires. Chrome side-pipes play the exhaust tunes with big band style and contrast beautifully with the striking glossy black exterior paint.
Here’s a chance to own one of the most electrifying custom Corvettes ever made ‒ guaranteed to steel the thunder of any brand-new Corvette you pull up alongside.
