There are three important things to know about Texas: Everything is bigger, the Dallas Cowboys will always be “America’s team” and Texans love their pickup trucks. Nothing says Texas more than the timeless rugged utilitarian nature of a truck built for the long haul. After all, Texans are hard-working and require a vehicle built to suit their needs.
The pickup is in the truest sense function over form; no other vehicle can match the versatility offered. Pickups are machines built for tradesmen, with the power to handle varied terrain with ease, the capacity to haul loads cross country and, of course, look good doing it. For decades the pickup operated as a workhorse, to be saddled with cargo and set forth on the open road. As the as the 1950s arrived, the pickup became more than just a utilitarian mainstay. It grew more luxurious, more appropriate as an in-town runabout capable of serving as an everyday vehicle that could put in work Monday to Friday and dress to the nines come Sunday.

In the United States, America’s love affair with the pickup has been such that it has remained a staple of the custom car scene. From stock and mild to inventive and wild, the humble pickup represents one of the fastest-growing and most popular segments of the collector car hobby. Old or new, the pickup has proven to be an ideal entry point for modification, and the diversity of manufacturers, body styles and powertrains leaves boundless possibilities when modifying a former workhorse.
