LOT #470 – 1970 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA GRAN COUPE – $143,000
As Barrett-Jackson roared into midweek action, bidders and automotive enthusiasts filled the auction arena to watch the parade of muscle cars, Resto-Mods, one-of-a-kind creations and future collectibles. Enthusiastic bidding kept the audience excited as the day progressed, and over 30 auction world records were set. The day’s top-selling vehicle was Lot #470, a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe, which crossed the block for $143,000.
Some of the day’s other highlights included Lot #490, a 1970 Dodge Coronet custom coupe that sold for $137,500; Lot #500, a 1940 Ford custom Deluxe coupe and Lot #531, a 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, each selling for $107,800; Lot #465, a 1965 427 Roadster Re-creation that sold for $71,500; Lot #420.1, a 1976 Jeep Wagoneer that set a new auction world record with its $69,300 sale; Lot #458, a 1930 Nash custom sedan which went to its new home for $69,300; and Lot #434, 1934 Harley-Davidson RL 45 motorcycle, selling for $68,200.
Barrett-Jackson events attract the best and brightest of the automotive and entertainment worlds, and today Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson was able to catch up with longtime friends of the auction NASCAR driver Joey Logano, retired race car driver Arie Luyendyk and his son Arie Luyendyk Jr., former IndyCar driver Paul Tracy, race car driver Casey Mears and actor Cody Walker.
Collector Car Symposiums continued Wednesday with “This Gang Knows Customs: A Look Inside the Volvo Named Iron Maven” featuring the car’s builder and automotive TV personality Bogi Lateiner, hobbyist mechanic Sky Watson, Scott Doering from Volvo, Dave Kindig from Kindig-It Designs and noted builder Bobby Alloway, who is also a Barrett-Jackson Cup judge.
The dynamic energy that filled the arena was matched at the popular RAM TRX Off-Road Experience and Toyota TRD Pro Dirt Ride. Each off-road experience tests the limits and extremes of what the RAM TRX and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and 4Runner TRD Pro can do. Professional drivers navigated passengers through challenging courses filled with jumps, steep inclines, high banks and uneven terrain that showcased each vehicle’s suspension and wheel articulation. The Off-Road Experience will continue through Sunday, along with Dodge and Toyota Thrill Rides at the Barrett-Jackson Performance Track.
The track also welcomed the addition of Ford and Chevrolet Hot Laps on Wednesday, which gave guests the opportunity to receive an adrenaline-pumping ride with a professional driver behind the wheel of a new Mustang, Mach-E or C8 Corvette. Ford and Chevrolet will be offering Hot Laps through Saturday.
